Welcome to Purbeck Art Weeks25 May - 9 June 2013
Purbeck Art Weeks is a 2-week festival taking place every year in Dorset, incorporating around 50 artists exhibiting in their own open studios, a group show at Rollington Barn near Corfe Castle, events, workshops, concerts, talks and a lively and expanding Fringe. The festival has been growing steadily over the last few years, recently hosting alumni such as Sir Anthony Caro, Jim Hunter, Sheila Girling and Melvin Bragg as visiting speakers and artists. On the musical front we have curated performances by world class musicians including the Gabrieli Consort and Natalie Clein and Friends. We are increasingly involved with local schools in the area, with exhibitions and events featuring the work of Purbeck Young Artists, often working in collaboration with established artists in various fields. Last year’s theme was ‘Carnival of the Animals’ inspired by the wonderful music of the French composer Camille Saint-Saens. In 2013 our theme is “Global Patterns” involving around 12 schools and around 500 young people. We are always looking for sponsorship to help us encourage your talent so do get in touch if you would like to help. We also offer bursaries to individuals with the aim of encouraging and promoting all types of artistic endeavour in Purbeck. We welcome both artists who wish to participate - please get in touch via email (also if you want to enquire about our bursary scheme) and friends of the festival and sponsors who would like to support our aims. Visiting 'PAW' is an excellent way to take in the sights and delights of this wonderful area, home to the World Heritage designated Jurassic Coast as well as many other fantastic locations. Whether visiting for the day or planning a longer stay, make sure to come and sample the wonderful and varied talent on offer both during the festival and indeed at other times... To keep in touch with PAW or stay informed of future events please join our mailing list - click here (your details will only be used to inform you of PAW festival updates and you can unsubscribe any time). Thanks for visiting and we hope to see you at the Festival later this month.
